The Vision behind Subic Bay International Airport

The Vision behind Subic Bay International Airport

Have you ever traveled to Subic via plane and seen the Subic Bay International Airport (SBIA)? It’s a prominent infrastructure in Subic Bay which can be reached within 35 minutes from Manila. It serves as a secondary airport and a main diversion airport of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It is also the airport serving the immediate area of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and the general area of Olongapo City in the Philippines. This airport used to be the Naval Air Station Cubi Point of the United States Navy.

In December 2010, Guam-based Aviation Concepts has set up fixed-based operations as a full-service business jet center at Subic Bay International Airport, which has made it Asia’s largest private aviation firm in terms of hangar space (100,000 square feet).

The vision of the Subic Bay International Airport states that “SBIA shall be a world class air logistic transshipment hub within the Asia Pacific region for the high end corporate jet industry.”

The vision of SBIA couldn’t have been crafted and under consistent review without strong Senior Leadership. Similar to any organization, Senior Leadership is crucial in delivering the vision and actualizing the plans. Without the support of Senior Leaders, great ideas and plans usually end up stuck in the proposal phase and do not materialize.

Under the Philippine Quality Award criteria requirements, Senior Leadership is assessed through several indicators – one of which is the involvement of Senior Leaders in the organization’s vision and values. The organization’s senior leaders should set directions and create a customer focus, clear and visible organizational values, and high expectations for the workforce. Moreover, the senior leaders should inspire and encourage the entire workforce to contribute, to develop and learn, to be innovative, and to embrace meaningful change. A PQA Assessor asks if the senior leader is able deploy the organization’s vision and values to the workforce, to key suppliers and partners, and to customers and other stakeholders, as appropriate.

Do you agree that the management teams in different airports across the country should also observe these Senior Leaders’ “guidelines” in carrying out the organization’s vision? Join the conversation today.
