Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management

NYK Fil-Ship Management, Inc.

Established in August 1989, NYK-FIL has emerged as one of the most successful shipmanning companies in the Philippines.  It is a joint venture of NYK Line and the Filipino-owned Transnational Diversified Group.  NYK-FIL although relatively young player in the industry, has carved a respectable position as one of the most prestigious manning companies in the Philippines.  From its humble beginnings of manning eight (8) ships, it now provides crew to 148 vessels of NYK Line with 6,000 seafarers under its wings and greatly contributing to the country's foreign reserves.

NYK-FIL is a consistent Awardee of Excellence by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for exemplary performance for many years.  On 31 January 2006, it was conferred anew the Award Excellence, ranking among the top ten awardees in the manning industry comprised of more than 300 manning companies.  NYK-FIL was also recognized for its exemplary welfare programs and allied services including its demonstrated capability in the field of overseas employment.  Due to the quality of manning and training services that it offers, its Principal, NYK Line, earned the Presidential Award of Distinction in the field of training during the First International employers Award in 2002.  Its employer was again conferred the Presidential Award of Distinction and the Ministerial Citation during the Second International Employers Award in 2005.

Quality is a way of life at NYK-FIL.  It is a well-guarded tradition that guides the company toward its continuing journey for service excellence.  It is a proud ISO 9001:2000 certified company for both its manning and training operations.

Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management

Centro Escolar University

Centro Escolar University is a private, stocked, non-sectarian institution of higher learning founded in 1907.  It has since risen to be one of the top providers of quality professionals in the practice of Dentistry, Optometry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Technology, Nutrition, Social Work, Education and Accountancy.  The University has also produced quality practitioners in the fields of Tourism, Business and Management, Information Technology, Mass Communications, Secretarial, Hotel and Restaurant Management and various arts and sciences.  These courses were designed to equip students for local and international employment and practice, guided by the philosophy of knowledge and virtue, and embodied in the mission of providing "quality education that ensures total development of its members" in a caring environment.  The successful achievement of its mission is indicated by the laudable performance of its graduates in the board examinations in terms of passing percentage and board placers and in the placement of its graduates.

Strong leadership, a distinct organizational culture, highly qualified team of managers-educators, faculty and support staff and well-defined academic and support processes and financial stability ensure the University's quality performance.  The 1,060-manpower complement has evolved into a learning community to meet the challenges of changing needs and expectations of various stakeholders.  This is shown in their commitment to implement/support several continuous improvement schemes.  These include levels 2 and 3 accreditation under PACUCOA and PAASCU for almost all programs at CEU Manila and Malolos, internal and external quality audits and customer feedback under its ISO 9001 certification, quality tools such as 5S, a suggestion scheme, quality circles and a recognition scheme.  The CHED conferred on CEU the distinction of a Full Autonomy Status for Meritorious Achievement in Higher Education in recognition of its long tradition of performance excellence and integrity.

University of Santo Tomas

When one talks of Espana Blvd., one landmark will immediately come to mind: the University of Santo Tomas.  And when one talks of UST, a lot of things come to mind: old at 395 nestled on a sprawling historical campus, quality Catholic education, Papal visits, countless alumni that include Jose Rizal, Apolinario Mabini and Alfredo Velayo  of SGV, topnotchers in board examinations, the Growling Tigers of UAAP, and a host of other things, including a well-known hospital that also bears the University name.  Indeed, the University of Santo Tomas is all these, and a whole lot more.  It spells of excellence as manifested by the awards and recognitions it has received from government and accrediting bodies for the high quality education it offers.  As a matter of fact, UST has been granted full autonomy by the CHED due to the excellence of its flagship programs.  Looking back at its historical past, one encounters the name Miguel de Benavides, O.P., the third Archbishop of Manila who initiated the establishment of the institution by bequeathing his modest personal funds and his personal library collection on July 24, 1605, two days before his death.  On April 28, 1611, UST was formally established as a "seminary-college".  This marked the tertiary education in the Philippines.  Today, 395 years, 18 colleges and 33,000 students later, the Pontifical and Royal Catholic University of Santo Tomas once again proves that quality education is its trademark, with the PQA for Proficiency in Quality Management bestowed upon it.

Anticipating its fourth centennial in 2011, UST continues to provide Filipino with the characteristic quality Catholic education that it has been known for.  It will expand beyond Espana and extend to the South-the southern part of Luzon in Laguna (Sta.Rosa Campus) and the Southern part of Mindanao in General Santos City (Gen. Santos Campus).  It will bring to the new campuses the same Thomasian identity of competence, compassion and commitment.  Utilizing an updated IT infrastructure to support e-learning and other innovative services, UST will be able to hurdle its next 400 years in the same level of excellence that it had as it served the country from 1611 to this day.
