Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management

Panasonic Mobile Communication of the Philippines

Panasonic Mobile Communications Corporation of the Philippines (PMCP), (formerly known as Matsushita Communication Industrial Corporation of the Philippines) is a manufacturing company with a total workforce of 1,500 employees and twenty percent (20%) of which belong to the technical group in engineering, quality control and production. PMCP currently ranks as number two (2) among the Matsushita companies in the Asia Oceania region and its sales has reached P36,000,000,000,000 (approximately $650 million) for the current fiscal year.

The company is producing five Panasonic products namely: Panasonic GSM mobile phones, closed circuit video equipment, floppy disk drives, electronic toll collection and electret condenser microphones. The aforesaid products are ninety eight percent (98%) for export which had achieved wider acceptance in the global market. Management's major strategy is emphasize on focusing on quality enhancement which aims to make "Quality as PMCP's Core Competence and Identity".

PMCP's manufacturing facilities uses state of the art machines at par with the standards of other leading companies with similar business activities. The production line employs high-speed surface mounting machines, high precision PCB function testers and automated inspection equipment. This greatly improve quality reduce cycle time and improve the overall efficiency and productivity of the company.

To complement the said state of the art facilities are highly trained personnel who have undergone extensive training abroad to support the management thrusts of producing quality products to compete with the world's best.

Indophil Textile Mills Inc. is the first Indian-Filipino joint venture in the country which started its operation in 1975 with merely 15,500 spindles and a lean workforce of 300 employees. As of today, Indophil has 91,844 spindles with a 24.8 MW captive Power Plant, churning out 70 tons of high quality yarn per day and a committed workforce of 2000 employees. Forty percent (40%) of Indo Phil's production is directly exported to 24 quality sensitive countries like USA, Europe, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Australia, etc.

Indophil is managed by the Aditya Birla Group which is among India's largest business houses. Operating over five decades and globally for nearly thirty years. Its forty (40) state-of-the-art manufacturing units and sectoral services, anchored by 140,000 employees, spanning 18 countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Egypt, China, Australia, Canada, USA and UK.

Indo Phil is the only textile company in the Philippines to be certified by four (4) management systems namely, ISO-9001:2000 (Quality Management Systems), ISO-14001 (Environmental Management System), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health and Safely) and SA8000 (Social Accountability). Indo Phil is also certified Child-Friendly Firm Tow Star from ECOP-ILO.

Indophil has always held its strength in three (3) areas to be competitive in the global market arena. These strengths are relentless productivity and quality improvements, innovative cost cutting and operating efficiencies. However, the company realized that it cannot lean on these strengths alone to manage today's business challenges and one must foster a people-cantered organization with a performance-focused culture. With this shift in mindset, Indophil was able to successfully face the challenges without neglecting the organization's goal of improving operational competencies.
