DTI urges Mindanao firms to join PQA and PQC to become globally competitive
The Department of Trade and Industry is calling all private and public organizations in Mindanao to join the Philippine Quality Award (PQA) and Philippine Quality Challenge to be able to transform them into globally-competitive organizations.
The DTI- Competitiveness Bureau (CB) is set to conduct PQA/PQC Roadshow at Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City on Thursday, August 4, 2016 in a bid to promote the two quality programs to local businesses/organization in Mindanao.
CB Executive Director Virgilio Fulgencio explained that local businesses would benefit in joining the PQA and PQC by providing them a 360-degree approach in gauging organization’s strengths and opportunities for improvement.
“PQA and PQC will give you the opportunity to evaluate your organization, with the help of our highly qualified assessors and industry experts, this will lead your company on the right track towards organizational excellence.” Fulgencio said.
PQA is the highest level of recognition given to organizations, based on a global standard to assist local organization attain world-class performance excellence. It is the Philippine version of the US Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) and National Quality Awards abroad.
PQC on the other hand, is the simplified version of the PQA criteria focuses on companies interested to start their quality initiatives towards organizational excellence. Both the PQA and PQC serves as framework for competitiveness based on the principles of Total Quality Management (TQM).
To date, three PQA recipients came from Mindanao: Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (2013), Department of Science and Technology Region 9 (2013), and Department of Science and Technology Region 11 (2011).
Fulgencio also encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises to take part of PQC and transform their businesses into globally-competitive companies.
During the event, past PQA recipients and PQC awardees will showcase their best practices and journey towards organizational excellence. Atty. Jhihann C. Hairun-Natividad, CEO of Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (2013 PQA Commitment to Quality Management) and Mr. Emil Virtudez, of Link to Excellence Alternative for Non-Core (LEAN) Processes, Inc. (Recipient 2013 PQC 1 Awardee) will share their experience from application process to winning strategies of applying the PQA and PQC in their respective businesses.
